Keep Your Google My Business Current

Take a moment to update your Google My Business listing. If you don’t have one, create one. If you have one, but don’t have access to it, ask for it. Any company who created it can share user access for it.  The GMB app is very helpful for quick updates, and you can post information for those seeking your services. Those posts do expire because GMB is forcing you to be relevant and current. I see a lot of individuals just putting it out there and letting it hang loose. That is such a loss of possibilities.  It’s easy to pick up the easy media and run with them.

You think easy? Yeah, right? I’m telling you, yes. The setup will be the biggest crunch for you and figuring it out.

Below are a few questions and answers. If you have more, shoot me an email and I’m happy to answer what I can.

Questions for you:

Do you have a google my business account? Search on google and see if it comes up in the maps.

Do you have access to it? You need a Gmail account for access. (It is easy to set one up.)

Did you set it up? If no… then ….

Who set it up? Can they give you access? See levels of access listed here by Google.

Make sure you have ownership if a media company is doing it for you.

You don’t have access. But it is there? Then Google has a process of ownership you can follow the steps. Here is the link for how to do that.

Download the app on your phone for Google my Business.

Itunes or Android

You’ve downloaded the app now what…

Now you can upload photos. We love our photos. Don’t we?

Then, create a post. The posts expire, so GMB is forcing you to be relevant and current. This is awesome for you because it means you only need to have one or two in place at any given time. No pressure to post 5 to 10 times a day like other media platforms and those looking for your services will see them. They are not your favorite Aunt May or Uncle Joe who live a bazillion miles away and follow your business because you are family but has no idea what you do. 🙂 What a better way to focus your approach than to focus on those who are looking for you.

The GMB app will give you statistics of use and visitors.

Always thank those who give you a review and answer in a calm manner if anyone has an issue.

Why is GMB important?

Because it may be the first sighting of your business someone may have in their search. It’s local for those coming to you to buy your goods and services.  It allows for direct interaction of those looking for you. It allows you to thank those who offer reviews directly. It isn’t a social media platform like others, but it is still a media platform and probably one of THE most important for almost every demographic.

My best tip is to take a moment to find your calendar software or task software and put in a recurring reminder to look at it and put in a post. How often? I’d love for you to do it weekly, but bi-weekly or even monthly is better than once every year.

Why do I give you this advice if this is what I do for clients? Because my goal in life is to support other businesses. Smaller businesses can work these quick and easy approaches, but as they get busier, they will run out of time because they are busier. My staff and I are happy to help businesses as much as we can when they are ready for and need us. If you have any questions, shoot me an email or use the contact page. If you want to talk about VDS taking this over for you. I’m happy to discuss it and as always have a fabulous day!

*I do not own the Google My Business logo. It’s cute. I am only posting it so you can see a reference point of what you are looking for within the app and the world of Google. There are lots of Google logos. I am not the owner of any of them and have no rights to them. So take a lookie loo and find the cute blue house app to work with.
